Born in Delhi, Amitava completed his graduation from College of Art, New Delhi in 1972. He was a visiting Lecturer at College of Art & Womens Polytechnic, New Delhi during 1975-77. He received a Fellowship from Federal Republic of Germany for Advanced Exposure to Graphic Design and Exhibition in 1989.Since his first solo exhibition in 1969, he has participated in several exhibitions in India and abroad.
